Illogical to separate authority of Jesus from His words

I am writing in response to a recent letter to the editor entitled "Faulty Understanding - Faulty Doctrine." The author claims that the "IBN (International Baptist Network) doctrines seem to put the Bible above Jesus and the authority of the Bible above the authority of Jesus, who said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me" (Matt. 28:18). Interestingly, the writer uses the authority of the Bible to prove his point. It is illogical to separate the authority of Jesus' words and the authority of Jesus. Do not His words carry His authority?

Similarly, if one believes that the Bible is God's word, then it carries the same authority of God Himself.

When a police officer shouts, "Freeze!" do not his words carry his authority? A respectful citizen would not think, "Those are just his words, I do not need to stop." Instead he would stop because he understands the words of the officer have authority.
