ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP) – The apostle James described “pure and undefiled religion” as, in part, “to look after orphans and widows in their distress” (James 1:27). As Southern Baptists look forward to Orphans and Widows Sunday on Nov. 12, Send Relief has created a series of resources to help churches engage in this important ministry.
“We’ve seen that, around the world, there are 5 million children living in orphanages while an estimated 100 million others are struggling to survive on the streets,” said Bryant Wright, president of Send Relief. “As Christians, we know that children belong in safe, loving families. The church is commanded to meet that need, and Send Relief wants to come alongside your church and provide support as you do so.”
Send Relief’s resources include a bulletin insert, prayer guide and a slide presentation among other ways to share the news in your church. Send Relief also offers personalized coaching and offers training opportunities that encourage and equip churches to protect children and families.
