CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BP) — Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) President Clint Pressley has announced his appointments to the 2025 Committee on Committees. Michael Wood, lead pastor of First Baptist Church West Monroe, Louisiana, has been selected to lead the committee.
Pressley told Baptist Press he is thankful for Wood’s willingness to serve.
“I’ve known him and his great church for several years,” Pressley said. “He is a trusted pastor and leader in the SBC and will serve us well.”
The Committee on Committees is tasked with nominating members to serve on the 2025-2026 Committee on Nominations, which, in turn, selects those who will serve on the various SBC entity boards. The Committee on Committees will meet over the next six weeks to prepare its report to the convention.
“As a lifelong Southern Baptist, I have an enormous amount of gratitude and respect for our Convention,” said Wood, who will present the committee’s slate of nominees to messengers during the Tuesday afternoon session of the 2025 SBC annual meeting in Dallas. The committee’s report will be published in the Tuesday Bulletin.
“With the help of our full committee, we look forward to nominating individuals committed to our confession and our cooperative work to serve on the Committee on Nominations for the following year,” Wood said.
Pressley appointed Jesse Watkins, lead pastor or Friendship Southern Baptist Church in Concord, N.C., to serve as vice chair.
The committee is composed of 68 members, two from each of the 34 states and regions qualified for representation.
The roster includes 11 women (16%) and 13% non-Anglo nominees. The average church size of nominees is 623 members with an average Cooperative Program (CP) giving rate of 6.3%.
