NEW ORLEANS (BP) — Louisiana pastor Jay Adkins says he plans to nominate current Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) Recording Secretary Nathan Finn for another term when Southern Baptists gather in Dallas, June 10-11.
“Dr. Finn is imminently qualified to serve in this area. He is a published scholar and church history professor who is also a faithful servant of the local church,” Adkins told Baptist Press.
Finn has served three terms in the role. Keeping the record of proceedings at the SBC annual meeting and finalizing its Book of Reports and Annual are the primary responsibilities of the position.
He serves as a professor and the executive director of the Institute for Faith and Culture at North Greenville University in South Carolina.
He was dean of the School of Theology and Missions and professor of theological studies at Union University from 2015-2018, and he taught church history at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary from 2007-2015. He has contributed to and authored several books and academic works, including “The Baptist Story” and “Historical Theology for the Church.”
Finn holds a B.A. degree in history from Brewton-Parker College and M.Div. and a Ph.D. degrees from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Finn and his wife Leah are members of Taylors First Baptist Church (FBC) in Taylors, S.C., where Finn serves in a teaching pastor role.
During the 2024 ACP year, Taylors FBC received $5,346,248 in total undesignated receipts and gave $447,066 (8.36%) through the Cooperative Program. The church gave $59,020 to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering and $166,492 to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. They reported 1,394 in average worship attendance and 32 baptisms, according to the SBC Workspace and information provided by the church.
“Dr. Finn loves the SBC, and our convention is blessed to have a certified scholar and statesman to serve us in this role,” Adkins said.
