CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BP) — Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) President Clint Pressley has named Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (SBTS) professor Andrew Walker as chair of the Committee on Resolutions for the 2025 SBC annual meeting to be held in Dallas this summer.
“For several years now, I have known Dr. Walker to be an exceptional Christian thinker, writer and leader,” Pressley told Baptist Press. “I have full confidence that he will serve all Southern Baptists well as chairman of our 2025 Committee on Resolutions.”
Walker is no stranger to Southern Baptist public policy. He joined the faculty at Southern Seminary in 2019 having previously served as senior fellow in Christian ethics at the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC). He now serves as associate dean in the School of Theology and associate professor of Christian ethics and public theology. He is also the director of the Carl F. H. Henry Institute for Evangelical Engagement.
“Resolutions are a vital expression of what Southern Baptists believe about the pressing issues of our day, providing clarity, conviction, and biblical truth in a world awash in confusion,” Walker said in a statement to Baptist Press. “We are a people committed to the authority and inerrancy of Scripture, and our resolutions reflect our collective voice on matters of faith, culture, and public life. Resolutions are vital to the work of our entities and provide guidance for individuals like me who are tasked with educating future leaders in our Convention.
“As America’s largest Protestant denomination, observers often see our resolutions as a bellwether for American evangelical witness, so it is vital that we exercise the blessing of leadership responsibly. 2025 is a hallmark year for our Convention in the 100th anniversary of the Cooperation Program and the Baptist Faith and Message. I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in the committee to help steward this important process. I pray that our work will faithfully represent the heart of our Convention, voice unity in our witness, and glorify Christ in all we do.”
Joining Walker on the 2025 Committee on Resolutions are:
- Whitney Alexander, First Baptist, Gadsden, Ala.
- Michael Carlino, Kenwood Baptist, Louisville, Ky.
